A Guide to Our Facilities


Your WSU Learning Center is a flexible facility that provides for a variety of uses and functions.We provide classrooms, meeting rooms and study spaces tailored to the needs of our students and our community. We are connected by cable, satellite and by computer networks to the world, and each of our learning spaces is designed to take advantage of these technologies.

All learning spaces at WSU Learning Center are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Three wheelchair accessible lavatories are on the premises. Parking accommodates access for the differently-abled and all rooms are located on the ground level. A (non-cooking) kitchen area is also available for preparing refreshments.

OTTER ROOM

Use: The Otter Room computer lab consists of 9 student workstations, one of which can be used as an instructor's station with connection to the over-head, digital projector. This room is suitable for computer or internet based instruction and webcasting.

Equipment: Dual-core Intel-based iMac (9 units total) running MAC OS X, each with LAN-port/Airport wireless, external monitor connector port, 2 USB ports, 2 Firewire ports, digital phono jack, and built-in mic & camera. Instructor's station is connected to a digital, ceiling-mounted projector.

Software:
Core Programs include Final Cut Studio, Adobe Photoshop, MS Office suite applications, and Safari or Firefox Browsers. Additional Programs can be used according to class specifications.

Connections: Full T-1 (max transmission rate of 1.5 million bits/sec) through the College of Agriculture & Home Economics (CAHE) wide area network accessible through wired LAN or wifi signal.(WAN)

The Otter Room

The Otter Room computer lab is open to the
public free of charge for study if a group or class is not in session.



COUGAR ROOM

The Cougar Room is the office of the Learning Center director, Robert Force. This is the place to be as you explore your options for a future degree or plot your academic course through an often confusing landscape.

This room is also the local WSU-Distance Degree Program video library, with everything from Agricultural Economics to Women in Management & Leadership.

This area is also home to some of the most leading-edge teleconferencing equipment that has been used by many groups to telecommute, such as the Organic Seed Alliance and Jefferson County Public Works. The latter-noted used our tools to successfully interview individuals in distant areas for positions in their organizations.

TERMS OF ROOM USE

A. WHO’S RESPONSIBLE
 When a reservation request is confirmed, the person signing for the room is 
  responsible for  the keys, setting up for the meeting or event, cleanup afterward 
  and any damage or cleaning fees. 

B. KEYS
 Keys can be picked up from the Receptionist, unless the meeting is during the 
  regular  business hours of 9 am - 5 pm. Keys should be returned the next business
  day following your meeting or event.

C. SECURITY & EMERGENCIES
  Along with a facility key, the person responsible for the meeting or event will ne given
  a security code to arm and disarm the security system. WSU-Jefferson staff will instruct
  you in the correct method of arming and disarming the security alarm.

  In addition to the security code, the responsible person will also be given names & phone
  numbers for people to contact in the event of an emergency situation at the Learning
  Center.

D. PARKING 
  Please attempt to leave parking spaces closest to building available for our 
  clients. Additional parking may be found on the south side of Shold Business Park.



ROOM RESERVATIONS

To reserve a Learning Center Room please follow these directions:

Complete a  Reservation Request Form that includes: 

  • the name of your organization / group*
  • a statement which describes the nature of your meeting
  • the name and phone number of the person hosting the meeting
  • technology needs (example: data projector, satellite downlink)
Additional information may be required to clarify your needs. All reservations are coordinated by our room registrar, Sally Chapin at 379-5610 Ext. 200. Upon review of availabilty of the room on the date and time you requested, and our capability to accommodate your technology requirements your reservation will be confirmed by our room registrar, Sally Chapin.
 
* Priority for scheduling Learning Center rooms are: Scheduled for-credit classes with our education partners; credit, CEU or certificate courses with Cooperative Extension programs & non-profit community organizations; meetings with Cooperative Extension, public agencies & non-profit community organizations & NGO's.
